SDGA Annual Awards Dinner

The SDGA held their Annual Awards Dinner on September 29th to honor 2017's finest golfers. For the Juniors, Johnny Gruninger was both the Junior Player of the Year (Ages 18 & Under) and the Boys Player of the Year (14 & Under). Johnny won the SDGA Junior Classic Championship and represented the Syracuse District at the Williamson Cup, Interdistrict Championships, and NYS High School Championships. For the Men, Kevin VandenBerg won his third Player of the Year award. Kevin was the Post Standard Amateur and SDGA Ashe Champion, as well as the runner-up in the SDGA Match Play Championship. For the Seniors, Mike Naton of Tuscarora GC won the Player of the Year award for the second straight season. Mike was the Post Standard Senior Champion, SDGA Senior Best Ball Champion (with Don Christian), and runner-up in the SDGA Senior Stroke play Championship. Stew McGough, immediate Past President of the SDGA, was awarded the SDGA Golfer of the Year for his contributions to golf in the Syracuse District. We all thank Stew for his leadership over the past 4 years and his volunteer service and love of the game for the last 50 years.
