The duo from Foxfire GC and Bellevue CC, respectively, combined to shoot 12-under 60 in a round that included ten birdies and an eagle.
For as dominant as Christian and Young were playing, there were five teams right on their heels that finished within three strokes. One pair from Tuscarora GC, Mark Bednarski and David Smith, were tied with the leaders at six-under through nine holes.
Then, Young and Christian started pouring in more birdies, converting six consecutive from holes 10-15 to get to 12-under. Bednarski and Smith couldn’t keep up, but another Tuscarora duo nearly did; Bill Perry and Jeff Crooke.
Perry and Crooke, after shooting four-under 32 on the front, birdied holes 10 and 11 before rolling in their second eagle of the round on 14. As each group approached the 15th tee box, Christian and Young stood at 11-under while Perry and Crooke had just improved to eight-under.
The leaders would convert their final birdie of the day to get to 12-under, and despite a par on the 15th for Perry and Crooke, the Tuscarora duo would birdie each of their last three holes to finish solo second at 11-under.
A bogey on the 17th for Bednarski and Smith proved to be the dagger in their hopes of catching the leaders, though their 10-under finish was good enough for a solo fourth place finish. Also coming in at ten-under, finishing in third place, was the side of Brendan Villnave and Ryan Fecco.
Art Luke and Jack Weinerth rounded out the top-five at nine-under.
