CNYPGA Defeats SDGA, Reclaims Sovik Cup
MARCELLUS, N.Y. -- The CNYPGA professionals defeated the SDGA amateurs by a score of 20.5 to 9.5 in the 37th Sovik Cup hosted by Tuscarora Golf Club on September 28th. The 12 man team is selected from the Top 8 overall point leaders from the Senior Points List and top-4 overall points leaders from the Super Senior Points List.
The Syracuse District team consisted of John Harrington (Tuscarora GC), Walt McArdell (Foxfire GC), Jack Weinerth (Highland Park GC), Chris Smithers (Tuscarora GC), Dave Smith (Tuscarora GC), Mike Naton (Tuscarora GC), Bruce Levinson (Onondaga G&CC), John Woodruff (Kanon Valley CC), Tom Fletcher (Tuscarora GC), Randy Young (Bellevue CC), Richard Volcko (Beaver Meadows GC) and Todd Dischinger (Foxfire GC).
The CNYPGA team was represented by Mel Baum (Wa-Noa GC), Marcus Bernardo (Walden Oaks CC), Eric Manning (Elm Tree GC), Steve Nacewicz (Crestwood GC), Rop Phelps (Vesper Hills GC), Jeff Reader (Cazenovia GC), Tony Saraceno (Genegantslet GC), Alan Savage (Turning Stone), Nick Serafino (Timber Banks GC), Joe Tesori (The Pompey Club), Mark Tucker (Cazenovia CC), Trey Walewski (Meadowbrook GC).
The Sovik Cup is in honor of Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Famer Larry Sovik, who won six Syracuse District Amateur Championships in his career.
