Joe Petrin Jr Wins Second SDGA Title of Season in Playoff at Mid-Am

CICERO, N.Y. – Joe Petrin Jr. wins the 2026 SDGA Mid-Amateur Championship in a playoff. The Bellevue Country Club member beat Bob Davenport at Lakeshore Yacht & Country Club on Sunday.

Petrin Jr. found himself playing catch-up after round one. His first scorecard read 69 (three-under), good enough for a share of second place with Andrew Brunozzi (Yahnundasis Golf Club). Petrin Jr. fired seven birdies on day one but was held back by four bogeys, including two on par-3s. 

Davenport (Yahnundasis Golf Club) set the pace on day round with a tournament-low round of 67, five-under. He was one-over through 12 but found four birdies and an eagle to go six-under in his final six holes. 

Petrin Jr. came out swinging on day two as he birdied the first hole, a short par-4, and the par-five fifth hole. Davenport maintained his lead going one-under in the front-nine to stay two-strokes in front. He was undone by three bogeys in the back nine and was tied with Petrin Jr. after 14. 

On the 16th hole, the final par 5, Petrin Jr. birdied for the lead while Davenport only managed par. Trailing by one on the 18th tee box, Davenport’s drive went long of the green. He hit a nice second shot to easily secure birdie moving to five-under. Petrin Jr. had a more difficult route as he needed to go up-and-down for par and to extend the championship. Petrin Jr. hit his chip shot to about eight feet and drained the putt to force the playoff.

Davenport and Petrin Jr. returned to the 18th tee box to settle the score. Davenport found himself out of bounds after his tee shot and couldn’t recover. Petrin Jr. calmly made bogey to secure the title winning the 2026 SDGA Mid-Amateur Championship in 37 holes.

Defending champion Jim Hirsh (NYSGA eClub - Central NY) finished in third place at one-under. M. Connor Wisniewski (Drumlins Golf Club) finished tied for fourth after winning the NYS Mixed Team Championship with Jessica Doran earlier this month. Brunozzi finished at two-over to tie with Wisniewski.
