Petrin's Repeat as Father-Child Champions; Hicks' Win Net Title

The Syracuse District Golf Association held their annual Father & Child Event last Saturday at Cazenovia Golf Club.

Joe Petrin and Joe Petrin Jr. repeated as champions in the Scratch Division. It was the third title for the duo. Petrin (Bellevue Country Club) and Petrin Jr. (NYSGA e-Club) shot 60, 10-under, in the scramble format to win by two strokes. 


Brad (Onondaga G & CC) and Bill Monroe (The Links and Erie Village) came closest to the leaders turning in a score of eight-under, 62. The Sullivan family, of Tuscarora GC, Tim and Adam fired a round of four-under, 66. They tied for third place with Mike and Jack Byrnes who were playing their home course, Cazenovia GC.


In the Callaway Division, David and Cate Hicks (both of Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University) won by a single stroke in a tight race. All 12 pairs were within four strokes of the leaders. The Hicks family shot one-under par, 69. Right behind them were Lucas Hunter and Tim Shore who finished at even par, 70. 


Tying for third place were two father-daughter duos from Cazenovia GC. Bryan and Erin Howles as well as James Tynan and Erin Cariseo finished with a 71, one-over. On the sixth hole, a par 3, Cariseo made a hole-in-one from 143 yards with her 4 wood. It was the fifth ace in the tournament’s 15-year history and the second consecutive year that a one was recorded. 


The course played at 5762 yards, par 70, from a mix of the red and white tees. The event featured a record-number of women in the field.
