Young, Drogo Win First SDGA Titles at Junior Match Play

Dan Young won his first District title at Drumlins CC on Wednesday, capturing the 2026 SDGA 18U Junior Match Play championship with a 1-up win on the 18th hole over David Ahn.

As the No. 2 seed in the 16-player bracket-style tournament, Young defeated Graham Jenkins, 4&3, in the first round on Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinals. He would go against Brayden Sheridan on Tuesday, who went 21 holes in the Round of 16 to advance, and beat him on the 16th hole, 3&2, to advance to Wednesday’s 36-hole finale.

Young started the day with a semifinal match against Team New York’s Patrick O’Connor, and O’Connor would take him to the 18th hole for the first time all week. Though Young would prevail with a 2-up victory, setting up an afternoon title match with Ahn, who had beaten Charlie Beaton (6&5), Team New York’s Brayden Thomas (2&1) and William Murphy (6&5) to reach the final match. 

The two would go back and forth for most of the match, trading leads throughout, but Young would get it done on the 18th hole to win, 1-up, and claim his first SDGA title. 

14U Division

As the top seed, Alex Drogo won the SDGA 14U Junior Match Play championship, orchestrating a comeback for the ages in the championship match that would eventually lead him to a 1-up victory on the 18th hole. 

To get there, he bested Ben McCabe in the semifinals, 7&5, to set up a championship showdown with Chase Pudney, who had won his semifinal match 8&7. 

Drogo found himself five down through the first six holes of his championship match. He would rattle off four birdies in a row to get it back to A/S through 11 holes, then take a 1-up lead through the 16th hole. 

After losing the next hole, the match went back to A/S headed into the 18th, where Drogo would win the hole and stake his claim to his first SDGA title.
