Avotins, Dirubbo, Hatton Claim 2020 SDGA Junior Classic

S. Avotins, Dirubbo, and Hatton won the three age divisions for the 2020 SDGA Junior Classic. Solomia Avotins won the Girl’s Division over Nataly Avotins by shooting a three-round total of 239 (+21). Tyson Dirubbo won the Sub-Junior Division (14 and under) over Ryan Storie by shooting 89 for a three-round total of 276(+61), respectably. Peter Hatton won the Boys Junior Division (15-18) by shooting 72 for a three-round total of 219 (+4).

The first round was held at Foxfire Golf Course. Solomia Avotins (Links at Erie Village) shot an impressive 78 which included two birdies. Her sister, Nataly Avotins, shot an 87 to put herself 9 shots off her sisters’ lead.
In the Boys Sub-Junior Division, Tyson Dirubbo (Skaneateles Country Club) shot 97 giving him a first round lead over Ryan Storie (Lakeshore 1860) who shot 119 the first day.
In the Boys Junior Division (15-18), Shawn Colella (Bellevue) and Peter Hatton (Links at Erie Village) both shot 73 to tie for the lead. Three shots behind the leaders were Punn Chittaratlert (Drumlins) and Adam Butch (Cazenovia Country Club) who both shot 76, respectably.
The second round was held at Lakeshore 1860. Nataly Avotins tighted her sister’s lead by shooting 81. Solomia Avotins shot a second-round score of 84 cutting her lead down to 6 shots.
In the Boys Sub-Junior Division, Tyson Dirubbo followed up his 97 with an improved score of 90. Ryan Storie improved by 13 shots the second round by shooting 106.
In the Boys Junior Division, Peter Hatton broke away from his first-round co-lead by shooting 74 to give him a 2-shot lead over Tynan Jones. Tynan Jones (Skaneateles Country Club) improved by 5 shots in his second round by shooting an impressive 72 (Even par).
The final round was held at Cazenovia Country Club. In the Girls Division, Solomia Avotins maintained her lead over her sister by shooting a final round 77 which included an eagle on the 13th hole. Nataly Avotins finished the tournament with a 79 giving her a three-round total of 247.
In the Boys Sub-Junior Division, Tyson Dirubbo shot a final round 89 to shoot a three-round total of 276 giving him the Sub-Junior Title over Ryan Storie. Storie improved his score in the final round by shooting 101 giving him a three-round total of 326.

In the Boys Junior Division, Peter Hatton clinched the three-day event by finishing with a final round 72 (Even par). His round included 5 birdies, one of which was on the final hole where he nearly holed out his approach shot to end the tournament from the fairway. Shawn Colella finished strong with a final round 72 to shoot a three-round total of 222 (+7) and finish 3 shots off the lead. In solo third place was Adam Butch who shot a final round 73 giving him a three-round total of 223 (+8) and four shots off the lead.
Up next for the Juniors is the SDGA Junior Match Play Championship on July 13th at Drumlins Golf Club.
